Hoist Repairs on Bulk Carrier in Western Australia

Late last Tuesday we received a call to attend our customer’s bulk carrier in Kwinana Western Australia. By Wednesday Warren and Blake were in WA ready to carry out repairs to four Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Machinery Systems deck cranes, in order to overcome defect with winching down control.

Operational tests were carried out on cranes number 1, 2 3 & 4 and it was found that in all four cranes the hoisting lever was not returning to neutral on its own when hoisting down with the crane running. A Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Machinery Systems, Ltd. approved “Neutral Support Device” was installed to each of the four cranes, and further tests conducted to ensure the control handle returned to neutral and that the winch brake was applying.
